The first ever start page that I used, Netvibes, has been given a facelift.

For those of you who’re not aware what Netvibes is: it’s an AJAX based start page, where you could add your own modules ranging from email, calendars, to fun gaming, RSS Feeds and many more.

Now, four new colourful themes have been added, one dark, and another named ‘Fresh’ that’s got vivid colours, ‘Fluo’ with washed bluish colours and one more called ‘Veerle’ boasts of elegant tabs and rounded corners. The Plus is that you can create your very own custom themes by navigating to Settings >> Themes in the page. Pick up your favourite colours and pimp up your Netvibes AJAX start page.

Wallpapers can now be added as backgrounds to your page’s header and modules. You could either use the featured wallpapers or else you could take off pictures from Flickr, MySpace or twitter.

not bad – but still not as sexy as schmedley.com IMHO

Well, Schmedley is a good one too, but it still needs many more. A promising one.

    Wonderful!
but I never really felt the importance of Netvibes. I simple use FeedDemon and Firefox Quick Search (not the search box to the upper right, but the address bar). Occasionally on road, I use Google Reader.

I have used Netvibes. It’s really a good product to start with. But now, for some reason, I’m satisfied with Google Reader. But, Netvibes is still a good tool for bloggers.

I disagree with Darren. Actually, I started using Netvibes for a few days and later found out that it was killing productivity, as I get hooked up something else on Netvibes.

What are your thoughts over this?

    Hmm.. I see…
When I started using Netvibes, I was just hooked. But it didn’t decrease my productivity, as far as I can guess.
But, as I added more feeds to my page, Netvibes became too slow and I had to quit. But I think it’s a good one when harnessed properly. And obviously, that’s just my opinion.

Hmm i prefere Google Reader . Do you think it is faster than Google reader .

  • http://blogtalks.net Thilak

Madhur: In my opinion Google Reader no way competes with Netvibes, but iGoogle does.

Thilak is right. :) I don’t think Netvibes is faster than Google Reader.

BTW, Thilak: How’re you now? How’s your health? :)

  • http://blogtalks.net Thilak

Well, We can’t exactly say Netvibes is faster than Google Reader or vice a versa, because they just don’t match up!

Google Reader is a feedreader, whereas Netvibes is simply everything. It’s a AJAX desktop remember?

    Yeah.
