Applications can easily be pinned to the start menu in Windows XP for easy access.
You can do this by right clicking the Application’s .exe file, and selecting the Pin to Start Menu option. The program instantly appears in your Start menu, and can be quickly launched. This option is not available for folders - meaning that you can’t pin folders to the Start Menu. But you can try this hack to enable the Pin to Start Menu option for folders too:
- Go to the Registry Editor by navigating to Start >> Run, typing regedit.exe and hitting Enter
- Dive into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
- In the right pane, right click, select New >> Key
- Type in: {a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}, press Enter
- Close the Registry Editor
- Right click on any folder holding the SHIFT key. You should see the ‘Pin to Start Menu’ option. Click it to add it to your Start menu
Now, you can access folders easily from your Start menu itself - thanks to this hack.
Disclaimer: Modifying the registry may harm your system. A backup is needed in case your system gets harmed. Do this at your own risk.
