Apple has now released the Safari Browser for Windows. A very good news for web designers they say.

Apple's Safari On Windows

There’s all you need - inbuilt pop-up blocking, bookmarking, tabbed browsing, autofill, built-in RSS reader, and resizable text fields. There’s also a feature called Private Browsing which lets you browse safe online: no cookies, no history, no cache saved. There are also plugins available to extend Safari’s features. And the start-up time is pretty much fast.

Snapback seems to be an unique feature:

With most browsers, it’s easy to lose your way on the web. You go surfing, and before you know it, you’ve drifted far from where you started. Stop hitting the Back button and start using SnapBack in Safari. SnapBack lets you instantly snap back to your original search results or to the top level of any website, even after you’ve browsed down a few levels.

As Arpit points out, the text seems to be a lot more smoother (even though I use Cleartype on my PC) on Safari.

Now, web designers can test how sites render on Safari. The job just got easier. But some say the rendering of sites on Windows Safari is different from that on Mac.

The installation was so fast. Less than a minute. I expected it to take time. But it didn’t.

Currently, I’m just playing around. Learning shortcuts. Isn’t the Ctrl + Enter shortcut for inserting .com available on Safari? Or did I miss it?

What are you waiting for? Go - download it and check how pretty your blog looks on Safari. ;)

  1. oh crap what the use if it renders differently on Windows and on a Mac :(

  2. wow, that’s cool! I was always wondering that why Apple is not taking this step. I’m sure this will certainly help them!!!!

  3. Arpit: Yeah, you’re right. It was just a bit of information from a typical user, so we’ve to wait and watch whether it turns true.
ReviewSaurus: I wonder what’s Apple’s motive behind releasing Safari for Windows ;)

  4. well, the motive is all clear and it is that they are trying to make people comfortable with their applications. Believe me, but most of the people use only the internet applications when it comes to computers and if they can attract more and more people to use safari, then they’ll be able to market, MAC saying that safari is easy and if you use MAC you’ll find same ease over there too.

  5. ReviewSaurus: Thanks for that view.
I tried it, and it seems to be a memory hog. I saw on the digg thread users reporting about this and this is true. May be they should concentrate on lessening memory usage.

  6. I guess, that you guys have starting taking beta in joke…thanks to web 2.0 sites…he he he!

Well, how can you forget that it is in beta and it may have bugs?

  7. ReviewSaurus: Yes, I know that a beta program has its issues, but I was not blaming them for it. I was just telling what was happening :)

  8. he he he…well, I was not pointing you…I was pointing what is discussed by lot of people @ digg!

  9. No probs, ReviewSaurus :)
