2 free alternatives to the default Windows Uninstaller
AdvertisementsYou’re waiting and waiting and waiting. But it doesn’t seem to respond. This is the case with the Add/Remove Programs applet in your Windows XP Control Panel. It’s sluggish and highly annoying, taking a lot of time to start up. It’s high time you start using some alternatives to the built-in Windows XP Uninstaller. Why not you try these?
ZSoft Uninstaller
This is my personal favourite. You’ll love it for its quick startup time – with the progress bar that vanishes so fast. There’s also a temporary file cleaner built in. Additionally, you can also hide windows security updates from the list. If you never want to uninstall a particular software, you can hide it from the list too. ZSoft Uninstaller can be downloaded from here. It’s just a plain and useful add or remove programs alternative.
MyUninstaller
MyUninstaller can provide you with more information about a software than the default uninstaller. It can list out the software manufacturer’s name, uninstall string, folder where it’s installed, version and many more. Like its ZSoft counterpart, it can also show/hide windows security updates. It can also uninstall Windows XP visual styles and many more. Download MyUninstaller from here.

Nice alternatives, but generally I use the Windows uninstaller. How much extra memory will these take?
Nirmal: They don’t really take up memory. In fact, they’re so light on resources. Give them a try
That is one nice list Shankar. I have heard a lot about MyUninstaller and I think I will give it a try
This is great. I have been using only Control panel of windows to uninstall. These two softwares are great.I will have to give it a try. Let me check it.
I’m glad you liked it, Dj.
The native Uninstaller sux. I uninstall files directly without using any such programs (i.e by clicking the Uninstall from menu)
Great options, although most of the time the Windows Uninstaller does the trick. I do find once and a while that smaller apps don’t have an uninstaller and these would come in handy.
RamKarthik: Don’t miss them. Give ‘em a try.
Beta3: I also try such things. It’s always good to activate the uninstaller directly.
Listikal: I’m glad you found this post useful. Thanks for stopping by! Hope to see you around here.
I also prefer the Windows Uninstaller but will give them a try .
