Search uploaded images in the WordPress Admin Panel

WordPress is an amazing blog platform, yet has some minor incapabilities. One of them is the highly incapable image browser in the Admin Panel. It lacks the most needed search feature - you can browse through images you’ve uploaded, but you can’t search them by keywords.

Contents Magic has recently released a WordPress Plugin that adds a little, yet highly useful feature to the WordPress Uploads page.
The Flickr-ize Image Search Plugin is how it’s called, and it adds a search tab to the the uploads page like this:
Uploaded images can be searched using keywords. The author says it can look up the keyword in both the description and the title of images.
Additionally, this plugin also adds another option with which you can wade through images on Flickr using keywords. You can click on a Flickr image, and send them to the post editor on WordPress. This is an interesting feature indeed.
I tried the Flickr search feature, but oddly enough, it didn’t seem to work for me. Can be excused since this is a Beta Version of the plugin
More upcoming features, according to the author:
1. Flickr Image Info: This will allow the blogger to view info of the flickr image.
2. More Pages: Currently I am showing only the first 6 images of flickr search. I intend to add more images in next pages.
3. Pagination Options: Bloggers will be able to set how many images they want to see per page in the search result.
This plugin may come to great use particularly on multi author blogs, where authors find themselves uploading the same picture many time inadvertently, they can search if an image has been uploaded and use them, not needing to upload again.
The plugin does a very useful job. Something that will come in handy at times.

Btw, nice mod of Qwilm. You might want to change the theme credits to about page or something.
@TechZilo: Are you kidding? That’s not me
I’ll check that post

Thanks for appreciating the effort I’ve taken on modding it
wow this is a nice plugin, i was looking for something like this. Thanx for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. Recently only I started to use the WP to upload the photos. Would be of great use and we can save time.
A very nice and useful plugin. Now I won’t have to search through pages for the uploaded images :D. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome, everyone

Shankar,
Thanks for trying this plugin. I develop the plugin in my extra time so I am going to spend some time soon in fixing the problems.
However I have mentioned that one of the requirement for the Flickr search feature is to have either cURL extension available or to have allow_fopen_url set to true. If you are not a programmer, these may sound like japanese to you, and there is not much you can do about it as these are generally controlled by your host.
I will try to find some solution that removes this dependency. But even if you dont use the Flickr part [which I hope you would], the Image Search itself is a real time saver.
Thanks for your review.
I too tried this plugin and looks good.

This is one feature that I’ve wanted for a long time. Thanks buddy.
Very nice information with plug ins. I had some problems earlier to use this but now, I am comfortable.
Very Good Plugin and useful one too. Thanks.
@WordPress Guru Advice: It’s really great that you were able to come up with such a plugin during your busy routine. I’m sorry I didn’t notice that requirement, and YES, the image search feature is big one to applaud for
I can only hope that the Flickr part works independently.
Overall, it’s a great plugin, thanks for making it and releasing it
@Nirmal, Ramkarthik: Yes, it does prove useful.
@Chamatkaribaba: Thanks for dropping by, glad that it works for you
I usually upload and use images instantly, so this search feature would not have made a great difference till now.. But I was reminiscing about the lack of a search feature or a better way to browse the images that I’ve uploaded and I am sure this will be useful..
Thanks for sharing this, Shankar!
Very good plugin for photoblogs
lately I’m researching a lot for photblogs
@Vijay: You’re welcome, glad that it’s useful to you.
@Benedict: I’m searching for more design related blogs lately
