Most people spend a lot of time chatting on the web, and IMs have been a productivity killer to many of us. But did you know that you can make your IM client a bit more useful by adding a few useful bot programs to your buddy list?

Here are three that can help you to do some useful tasks from your Instant Messenger.

IMified

Imified is an instant messenger bot that works with your instant messenger and provides a lot of useful functions that can prove very productive.

With IMified, you can access a lot of applications from within your instant messenger client, and that saves you a lot of time.

Once the IMified bot is added to your buddy list, you can create and manage todos, notes, reminders, access web applications like Google Calendar, etc. You can even publish a blog post from your IM via IMified.

Upcoming features may include a newsfeed alert system that lets you keep track of RSS feeds from your favourite messenger.

To access IMified, add any of these to your IM’s buddy list:

AIM: IMified
Yahoo: IMified (offline)
MSN: imified@imified.com
Gtalk/Jabber: imified@imified.com

Anothr RSS bot

Anothr is another useful web 2.0 service that brings the latest news items into your Instant Messenger.

Adding the Anothr bot to your list of online buddies, you can subscribe to your favourite news items, blogs, and get instant notifications of something happening new.

To access anothr, users can use these official Anothr bots:

MSN: msn0012@anothr.com
Skype: anothr.com
Google Talk: anothr@gmail.com

You can also get statistics on the most popular feeds from the Anothr website.

Meshly for Social Bookmarking

Adding the Meshly bot gives access to a social bookmarking system that you can use to organize your favourite websites and useful resources online.

AIM: meshly
Google Talk: meshly@gmail.com
MSN users: meshly@meshly.com

You can add, save, tag and manage your bookmarks from within your messenger with Meshly now.

I personally believe that these bots can come in handy in accomplishing minor tasks. What do you think?

    Anyway, how do you come up with such innovative stuff, looks like you spend 25 hrs a day surfing the net. hats off to you.

    @Nirmal: Yes, but these tools can be a _little_ productive
    @WordPress Advice: I too feel that my contact list is overloaded, but at times I feel like I need to add some more people hehe when there’s no one to chat LOL
    @Ashok: Thanks for dropping by.
    @Dj: Hehe you’re welcome :D

  7. well.. these seem interesting.. adding them to my list :)

  8. IMified I wanna try this :P

  9. @dEEPAK, rahul: Do try them out.

  10. I don’t spend much time on IMs as I used to a few months ago.. But nevertheless they seem promising and I would try it out sometime!

  11. Thanks for including Meshly in your post!

    I’m in agreement regarding the handiness of these tools. The thing I like about a lot of the IM bots is that they provide you with quick access to tasks that should be simple. A quick IM can be more immediate than pulling up a web page, logging in, and submitting a form (assuming you’re logged into IM all day).

    For instance, I run a couple of blog sites and I post a story or two a day, but if I come across things during the work day, it’s a lot quicker to post the bookmarks to Meshly. People who are in the same channels will get a sneak peek, and then I can come back to the list and pick my favorites for documenting more in-depth on my other sites. I know a few other people who are using it the same way.

    A lot of these IM tools really serve an efficiency function. They can help you get your other work done, or at least make your procrastinating take a little less time ;)
