Many a time, you must have got some errors while trying to play audio or video files on Windows Media Player due to missing codecs. The solution is to install all necessary codecs on your Windows computer.

Windows Media Player Codecs

The Windows Essential Media Codecs Pack does the job for you by installing all necessary media codecs required by Windows to play files. Free of cost, the Windows Essential Media Codecs Pack consists of audio and video codecs, and it has been designed in such a way that it will not conflict with previous codecs used for decoding a media file.

Formats supported include: 3GP, AAC, AC3, APE, AVI, DivX, DAT, Nero Digital, DTS, FLV, FLAC, HD-MOV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, M4A, MPC, MP3, MP4, OGG Vorbis, VOB, Xvid and many more.

The suite also comes with an update service that frequently checks for updates and downloads the latest codec versions. The pack is GNU GPL licensed and is available for download from here.

Great for audiophiles who keep downloading music stuff and enjoy listening to them on their computer!

Since I have started using XP Codec Pack, I have never had a problem in playing music or video files. Never heard of Windows Essential Media Codecs Pack. I’ll give this one a try and see if it’s any better than the XP Codec Pack.

Good find. But IMO, it’s always better for you to download the codec that you actually need and use.
