Warning: A worm is spreading through Orkut

Hey everyone! If you’re a frequent Orkut user (I’m sure many of my Indian friends are), this is a warning for you:

If you’ve read the following scrapbook entry in Orkut

2008 vem ai… que ele comece mto bem para vc

from one of your friends, you’re infected.

Simply viewing the message alone is sufficient for your Orkut account to be added to a new community named “Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut” and be an unwilling new host for the worm.

At the time of this writing, the number of Orkut members in Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut is already at the 400K mark. (read more here)

I’m not sure of doing what can prevent infections. Please post your views in the comments. Also, pass on this information to your friends.

  3. Nothing happens to my PC. I literally play with this virus file, visit crack sites for malwares, open .exe viruses but nothing happens. Gotta love Mac OS X for this!

    not at all possible :D
    You cannnot download anything like this into ur system and that too frm orkut ha ha
    also wht is the antivirus doing in the sytem ;)
    this is just a rumour

I never had this, may be because I use different software, but I hate something that happens on yahoo messenger, it is a silly messages that come from my friends on the messenger and when I click on them then they never stop and eventually I format my computer again and install yahoo messenger again, though my friends told me that couldn’t get rid of it, anyway, I learned not to click on them and ignore them,

    Does anyone know what is that?

  23. very useful information and warning though, but what do we all think?? is’t it time to leave orkut? that community is pit of spammers they flood your scrap book communities and inboxes to death =(
    i switched to facebook a long time ago, since then (almost 1 year) i never logged in to my orkut profile.
