Vote for the Taj, please

with 10 comments

There’s a campaign going on to list the new 7 wonders of the world, you might have known – at new7wonders.com

21 finalists have now been short listed and the new seven wonders will be announced on 07/07/07 – that’s July 07 this year, less than a month from now.

These new wonders are selected based on the number of votes they managed to receive from people all over the world. You can vote for any monument/site that you consider worth a wonder.

If you’re an Indian, you must consider voting for the Taj Mahal, India’s pride. I’m not imposing my views on you, but I strongly suggest you to cast your vote for the Taj. People say it’s going down in the list, so please consider voting for it.

You can vote online or via the phone. Vote now here.

Ubuntu in India: Do you wish to try out?

with 8 comments

Of late, there’s been a lot of news about my favourite operating system, Ubuntu. Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn was released, and now there have been reports that Dell PCs will ship pre-installed with Linux.

People in India who’re interested to try Ubuntu, with very less bandwidth especially, how do you get the discs?

You could get your discs via Shipit, but it takes time. There’s an Indian Ubuntu team striving hard to spread Ubuntu. It’s active all over India, and you have many regional teams functioning. Here’s a CD Request Wiki.

If you need a CD, you could try contacting these regional teams. A list of regional teams is here. Each team probably has it’s very own IRC channel and you could try asking them for CDs and other Ubuntu Support. #ubuntu-in is the Indian Team’s Official IRC Channel.

Now, if you need another quick option (fast delivery), a new site has been launched at UbuntuStore.co.in. They will ship both CDs and DVDs for all versions of Ubuntu 7.04: Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Edubuntu. Don’t forget to bookmark UbuntuStore.co.in.
