Stop Yahoo! Messenger from starting up with Windows

Yahoo! Messenger is a popular Instant Messenger for Yahoo! users. Most of you download it, and use it only occasionally. Yahoo! Messenger, by default, starts up when Windows starts. If you don’t like Yahoo Messenger starting up with Windows, you’ll have to remove it from the start up list in msconfig. But, the fact is that it doesn’t work.

Yahoo Messenger starts up everytime windows starts?

Even if you remove the Yahoo Messenger program from the msconfig start up list, it rewrites itself into the startup list again. There’s a way to get rid of this. Here’s how:

Yahoo!’s Web Messenger

Yahoo! is now offering a browser-based version of it’s popular instant messaging client, Yahoo! Messenger.

You can access it at Web.im or webmessenger.yahoo.com

It’s built on Flash, and it’s slick. It’s logs all your conversations as ‘message history’, and each conversation comes up as a new tab in the window-like interface.
All message logs are searchable from the interface itself. Love the set of emoticons.

One little thing which I didn’t like: this version is displaying flash ads in the right corner, not that bad, but still, distractive. Other than that, it’s perfect.

Pidgin 2.0 Beta is out: I’m lovin’ it

Pidgin 2.0 Beta (formerly GAIM) is now released.

Pidgin is a very powerful instant messenger that supports multiple protocols including

AIM / ICQ, Yahoo!, MSN Messenger, Jabber and also IRC.

You’ve got plugins for additional functionality and also loads of themes, to spice up this open source application. It supports multiple platforms.

Buddy Pounces is a unique feature in Pidgin which notifies you when a buddy goes away, comes online, play a sound or even run a program. Spell checker, tabbed conversations, Buddy ticker are some notable plugins. You could log your conversations too. The Buddy Notification plugin notifies you when any of your friends sign in/off, go away or idle. Cool. All plugins can be accessed via the Tools >> Plugins menu.

And colours in the conversation tab indicate what’s happening.
The new version has a got a very good facelift, cool icons, a good logo and others.
