OpenOffice.Org is a very good, open source alternative to proprietary office suites, and is available free of cost just like any other open source application. OpenOffice 2.3 was scheduled to be released on September 17, 2007 but it has been made available a day earlier on some download mirrors.

First Impressions on Yahoo’s new social network – Mash

Yahoo! is rolling out a new social network, Mash. It’s invite based, and is refreshing. Completely AJAXified, the network has more or less all the features that you’d would love to have in a social network. Thanks to Sankar Anand, I got an invite and signed up.

Yahoo! Mash, just like any other social network, gives you a profile page that not only you can customize, but also your friends. Your buddies can add stuff (modules) to your profile page and spice ‘em up.

Split large files using GSplit

If you urgently have to send a large file to your friend, in disks, but couldn’t because the file is too big to fit in one disk? How about splitting the file into pieces and then re uniting them back in the recipient’s computer? GSplit is the way to go.

GSplit File Splitter

GSplit can split files into multiple pieces, which you can carry in disks. Later when you want to reunite them, just launch the executable file that comes with the pieces – they get merged into one single file. The main advantage is that the recipient does not require the GSplit program to merge the splitted pieces.
